I’d like to say a huge thanks to Laxtons for sending us the yarns which make up this batch of skint skeins.

What’s a skint skein? It’s yarn that’s available free to anyone who can’t afford to buy hand dyed yarn right now. Sometimes being skint is temporary, sometimes it’s gone on for years and there’s no end in sight.

Who can apply? Anyone who feels they qualify. The only restriction for now is of you’re one of the 150 people who got yarn in the last batch of skint skeins please don’t apply again. We’re happy to ship worldwide.

Can you apply for someone else? No. Please let them know we’re running this and then, if they want to, they can apply for themselves.

How do you apply? First have a browse through the skeins which are available and decide what you’d like most. Underneath the images is a link to a form which asks for your name, email, address and top 5 picks in order. We’ll also ask if you’d be happy with a random skein if you don’t get any of your five choices or if you’d prefer to wait – we’ll run skint skeins again later in the year.

We’ll take applications until midnight on Friday 18th February – then we’ll do our best to give as many people as possible the yarn they’d like.

How much yarn can you have? For now we’re going to say one skein – the last batch of skein skeins generated over 1000 requests and I’d sooner more people got some yarn than a few people got lots.

So – onto the yarns.

All of the skeins are 100 grams.

I’m not 100% sure what the yarns are – some are discontinued yarns or samples, so I’ve given meters per 100 grams, said if the yarn is plied or a single and said if I think it has silk in it. I’ve also mentioned if yarns are high twist as these will be suitable for socks. The batch numbers go from thickest to thinnest yarns and the skeins shown in the picture are all of that batch – so there’s only one of some yarns and more of others.
