If you’re one of those lovely folk who knits or crochets gifts for others, it’s possible that right now you’re thinking that next time round you’d like it to be a little easier.

Shady Rainbow hand dyed skeins of DK Blue Faced Leicester wool

Maybe you’d like to make something for yourself, and limited time means it needs to be a quick project.

Either way our DK Blue Faced Leicester wool is perfect. I don’t do a huge amount of knitting with this yarn weight – and when I do I’m always pleasantly surprise bu just how quick it is (then again after socks on 2mm needles most things feel quicker….)

I’m a big fan of this yarn – it’s a 100% British BFL which is processed and spun in Yorkshire, so it’s racked up very few miles before it got to us.

DK and thicker yarns traditionally don’t do so well in hand dyed yarn, and I suspect a lot of that comes down to cost. Thicker yarns have fewer meters to each 100 gram skein, and that means more skeins are needed.

A 100 gram skein will make a hat or fingerless mitts or a simple cowl

Two 100 gram skeins will let you make a longer cowl which can be wrapped round your neck twice. I love that style of cowl if I’m going in and out of places – it makes it easy to cool down quickly without having to take things off and carry them.

It’s almost impossible to give yarn requirements for garments – it varies by style, size and stitch pattern. Something fitted and short uses way less yarn than a loose slouchy sweater which stops below your hips.

Regardless of what you’re thinking of making, right now you can save 20% off all of our DK yarn – and everything else in the shop apart from gift vouchers and 2022 yarn clubs. Just use code BOXING20 at checkout and the discount will be applied for you.
