2023 Advent Pattern Suggestions

As part of the 2023 Advent Calendar we’ve put together some pattern suggestions for you whether you knit or crochet. I say we – but the credit all goes to the lovely Nancy from Yarn Database
Just in case you haven’t used Yarn Database before here’s Nancy to explain what it is
“So, what is Yarn Database? This searchable, sortable site is designed to help you keep track of your favorite yarn community makers across platforms, and find new favorites. It lists knit and crochet designers, spinning fiber dyers and makers, yarn spinners and dyers, accessory shops, and tech editors. You mark your Favorites, and I’ll keep them up to date.”
One of the many things I love about Yarn Database is how accessible it is – so links to sites with accessibility concerns are clearly marked making it a great resource for everyone.
The patterns that Nancy has found are for sale, so if you find one that you love and want to make you’ll be supporting an indie business, and that feels excellent.

Triangulum Blanket by Craft House Magic
Knitted with 24 x 20g skeins
Notes from Nancy :

Scrappy V Tee by Knitosophy
Knitted with 24 x 20g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
As designed, 24x20g will fit all sizes. Smaller sizes will have enough yarn to add long sleeves. (Her yardage estimate has a 10% buffer, which brings it well within the range for all sizes.) This garment is inclusively sized and can be purchased in English and Spanish.

The Quest (two options, scarf and wrap) by rhyFlower Knits
Knitted with 24 x 10g skeins (scarf) or 24 x 20g skeins (wrap)
Notes from Nancy :
10g minis will complete the scarf version of this pattern. 20g minis will complete the wrap version.

Solstice Swells by Charknit
Knitted with 24 x 20g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
Love this but it only uses 21 20g minis.

Vittorio Cowl by Janelle Martin
Knitted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
This is knit either as a wide, shallow cowl or a narrow, deep one. The fancy shape is just short rows.

Habitation Throw by Curious Handmade
Knitted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
I triple-checked the pattern info, and it is 24 x 10g.

Among the Clouds by rhyFlower Knits
Knitted with 24 x 10g skeins plus a skein of neutral
Notes from Nancy :
This pattern will require a main color, in addition to the advent set.

Dinotopia Stocking by Hunt Hand Knits
Knitted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
This pattern will require a main color, in addition to the advent set. There would be enough yarn in the set to choose a rotating “main color, as well, if desired.
Pattern is charted with indicators for a main color and 24 minis, but her product photos don’t show the minis version. I included my finished item photo as the Alt Photo (note from Joy – this is the image at the top of the page). You could use whichever or both. I didn’t do the cording at the top the way she did. Easy enough for an experienced knitter to figure out how to do what I did, and I could send instructions to anyone who wanted them.

Baubles and Berries by Cherry Heart
Crocheted with 24 x 20g skeins
Notes from Nancy :

Just Feel Festive Shawl by Quirky Monday Crafts
Crocheted with 24 x 20g skeins
Notes from Nancy :

Mini Pops Cowl by Dana Rae Makes

Notes from Nancy :

Falling Leaves Scarf by Melu Crochet
Crocheted with 24 x 20g skeins
Notes from Nancy :

Macaw Wing by Joanna Lindahl, Mijo Crochet
Crocheted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
This is crocheted from the narrow side to the wide side, and is designed to use any amount of yarn. Minimum suggested is 984 yards, which is in range of the set.

Treasure Net by Joanna Lindahl, Mijo Crochet
Crocheted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
This is crocheted from the bottom to the top, and is designed to use any amount of yarn. Minimum suggested is 984 yards, which is in range of the set. The hem is added last, and depending on overall size, the amount of yarn that needs will vary so they may want a separate neutral skein for that.

Jeweled Facets wrap by Knot Bad Britt
Crocheted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
Designed for 12 20g skeins but would be much cooler with 24 10’s.

Rancher by TL Yarn Crafts
Tunisian crocheted with 24 x 10g skeins
Notes from Nancy :
This is Tunisian Crochet. Designed for 12 20g minis, could be done with 24 10g minis.
